Single Side Band

Single side band is also known as phone. Although, FM and AM are also "phone" many amateur operators mean SSB when using the term "phone".

Below 10 Mhz, SSB is usually done with only the lower side band (LSB).

Above 10 Mhz, SSB is usually done with only the upper side band (USB).

This selection of upper or lower sideband is related to the fact that many early radios used an IF around 9 Mhz.
